Gallup, NM — Since Carrie House, a Navajo Lesbian living in Gallup, was asked to participate in EQNM (Equality New Mexico) she’s been determined to organize the Gallup area LGBT community.

At a community forum, scheduled for 6pm on Friday, April 28, 2006 at the Gallup Chamber of Commerce, Carrie wants to know what the status and needs are of the Gallup area LGBT community. Her goals for the forum are to seek solutions, discussing how Gallup area residents and EQNM can connect and improve their LGBT community.

A self proclaimed “hermit,” due to her job, home construction and family activities, Carrie realizes that it can be difficult to organize people busy with their own lives. She knows the barriers but remains optimistic, “I know that if we band together as allies we will be able to overcome vast obstacles such as hatred and racism.”

Residents from Gallup and the surrounding area (Navajo, Sheepsprings, Shiprock, Zuni, Tohatchi, Crownpoint, Ramah, Thoreau, and Bluewater) are encouraged to attend.
