Gathering Goals

  • To strengthen the identity, dignity, integrity and wellness of Two Spirit (Aboriginal gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) people;
  • To provide opportunities for Two Spirit people to learn about their cultures, heritage, ceremonies, healing practices and inherent and civil rights;
  • To educate Aboriginal people about the traditional roles that Two Spirit people held in most communities.

Gathering Activities

Traditional foods, health workshops, HIV/AIDS movement, camping, sports, Two-Spirit entertainment, sweat lodge ceremonies, access to Elders, Two-Spirit pow-wow, traditional crafts and textile-making, sharing and healing circles, suicide prevention, memorials, cultural teachings, networking, weddings/rites of passage, visiting local communities, and picking medicines.

Gathering Lodging

We have a limited number of beds available, so we are encouraging people to camp, i.e. bring and set up a tent, etc. Some tents will be available as well. For those who can afford and want private rooms there is a hotel 2 miles from the site.

Gathering Directions

The Centre is approximately 50 km (aprox. 31 miles) northeast of Winnipeg. Travel north on Highway 59 and turn east (right) onto Highway 44. You will come to a dead end T intersection just north of the Town of Beausejour, which is the junction of Highways 12 North and 44. Take 44 south (right), and then turn east (left) at the Superior Inn. There is a bridge across the Brokenhead River approximately 2 km from the Super 8 and the Centre is the first driveway on your right after you cross that bridge. Follow the road to the right and you will find a green office building, a large, gray hall and three green lodges nestled in the oaks.
