With a network of media-makers, the Film Foundation has the primary purpose of promoting motion picture arts and professions in their region. They encourage the development of film making in Gallup by creating opportunities for budding artists to access equipment and showcase film in an innovative program of experimental workshops. This annual Film Festival exists to promote an international showcase of culturally diverse films, videos, and other moving pictures.

A portion of the proceeds of this event will go to Hurricane Katrina evacuees that have relocated to the Gallup area. These proceeds will also enable the Gallup Film Foundation to acquire new equipment for budding independent filmmakers to use.
