Landa Lakes, the mother of the Arbor, is from the Chickasaw Nation and looks for forward to spending time at the Osage Hills Two-Spirit Gathering and also taking time to spend with her family in South Central Oklahoma. The rest of the Gurlz are represented this year by the reigning Ms International Two-Spirits Samantha Richards (Navajo), Poonie Jones (Metis) and Miso Hornay (Princess to the Native Goddess of Glitter Grand Duchess of San Francisco). Poonie is especially excited to see the friends she made during the last International Two-Spirit Gathering held some months ago in Minnesota. Samantha and Miso are no strangers to the gathering or the stage and look to the gathering as a chance to recharge and meet up with their old friends and to stay grounded. Samantha sees it as a time of healing, while Miso is looking forward to the chaotic fun the Gurlz are bringing with them. The BAGz are often known for their more bawdy behavior. "I was asked to revive an old number this year because some haven't seen it live, " Landa Lakes said. "We are trying hard to be somewhat family friendly, but we're drag queens, need I say more…" And she broke into maniacal laughter which makes us wonder if that is really such a good thing. |
